Body Treatments

We offer a comprehensive range of treatments designed to revitalise and support your skin from head to toe. Our dedicated team of clinicians is committed to providing you with a high standard of care, addressing your specific concerns to help you achieve healthy-looking skin.

Miradry

We utilise medical-grade technology designed to reduce underarm sweat and odour. This procedure targets sweat glands in the underarm area and can be an effective option for managing hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Cooltech is designed to target and cool fat cells in specific areas resistant to diet and exercise. This cryolipolysis technology assists in the reduction of stubborn fat pockets to support body contouring goals.

The ClearV Vascular Laser is designed to target visible vessels and spider veins on the legs and body. It uses laser energy to treat vascular concerns while aiming to preserve the surrounding skin.

Forever Bare uses light technology to destroy hair follicles at the source so they no longer grow.
The Nd : YAG laser uses a clear, solid, crystalline medium that emits radiation in the infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum; the radiation has a wavelength of 1060 nm and is invisible.

What we treat

Dr Umed Cosmetics provides non-surgical body treatments for excessive underarm sweating, visible leg and body veins, unwanted hair, and localised areas of fat. These are different concerns using different technologies, and each one starts with a consultation to work out whether treatment is appropriate for you.

None of these treatments is a weight-loss treatment, and none of them is a substitute for medical management of an underlying condition.

Excessive sweating

Excessive sweating of the underarms, known clinically as axillary hyperhidrosis, can affect clothing, work and daily activities. It is a recognised medical condition rather than a cosmetic concern, and it is worth having assessed properly.

MiraDry uses a device that delivers controlled energy to the underarm area, targeting the sweat glands in that area. It is performed as a procedure in clinic rather than as a facial-style treatment, and local anaesthetic is used.

What to expect and consider:

  • Assessment comes first. Excessive sweating has more than one possible cause, and some causes need medical investigation rather than a device treatment.
  • Swelling, tenderness, numbness, bruising and lumpiness in the treated area are common afterwards and generally settle over days to weeks.
  • More than one session may be recommended.
  • Results vary between individuals, and a reduction in sweating is not the same as no sweating.
  • Other treatment approaches exist for this condition. Australian advertising law restricts what we can publish about some of them, so they are discussed at consultation.

Visible leg and body veins

Small visible vessels and spider veins on the legs, face and body are common, and several treatment approaches exist. Which one suits you depends on the size, type and depth of the vessels, which is why assessment matters more than the choice of device.

ClearV uses an Nd:YAG laser, an infrared wavelength that targets vessels beneath the surface of the skin while aiming to limit its effect on the surrounding skin. It is used for visible vessels and spider veins on the legs and body.

What to expect and consider:

  • Not all leg veins respond to laser. Larger veins, and veins associated with underlying venous disease, are usually better managed by other means, and we will tell you if that applies to you and refer where appropriate.
  • A course of treatments is usually needed rather than a single session.
  • Redness, swelling, bruising and temporary darkening of the treated vessels are common. Changes in skin pigmentation, blistering and scarring are possible.
  • Vessels can recur, and new ones can develop.

Unwanted hair

Forever BARE uses light energy directed at the pigment in the hair follicle, delivered in rapid low-energy pulses.

Suitability matters more here than for most treatments.

  • Light-based treatment relies on pigment in the hair. It generally works least well on grey, white, blonde, red and very fine hair, and in some cases will not work at all. We would rather tell you that at consultation than take a booking.
  • Skin tone affects both suitability and settings. Some skin types carry a higher risk of pigmentation change.
  • This is hair reduction rather than hair removal. A course of treatments is required, results vary between individuals, and maintenance sessions may be needed. We will not tell you that hair will never return.
  • Redness, swelling around the follicles, temporary pigmentation change, blistering and burns are possible risks.
  • Hormonal conditions can affect hair growth and therefore results. Mention any relevant medical history at consultation.

Localised areas of fat

Cooltech uses cryolipolysis, a technique that cools a defined area of fat under controlled conditions.

Read this before booking.

  • This is not a weight-loss treatment. It is used for defined, localised areas of fat, and it is not appropriate if weight loss is the goal. If that is what you are after, a consultation with your GP is the better starting point and we will say so.
  • Results vary considerably between individuals and between treatment areas. Some people see little change.
  • Common effects include numbness, tingling, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness and tenderness in the treated area, which generally settle over weeks.
  • Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia is a recognised complication of cryolipolysis, in which the treated area of fat enlarges rather than reduces. It is uncommon, it does not resolve on its own, and correcting it generally requires surgery. Your practitioner will discuss this with you before you consent.
  • Prolonged numbness or nerve pain in the treated area is also recognised.
  • A course is usual, and a treated area is generally not retreated for a set interval.
  • We assess expectations as well as anatomy. Where someone’s expectations of a body treatment are unlikely to be met, or where the underlying concern is not one a device can address, the right answer is to say so rather than to treat.

How a body treatment consultation works

  1. You describe the concern and what you are hoping to change.
  2. We take relevant medical history, including medications, previous treatments and any relevant conditions.
  3. The area is examined and assessed.
  4. We discuss whether treatment is appropriate, what the alternatives are including doing nothing, the likely number of sessions, the risks and the recovery.
  5. Cost is discussed.
  6. You have time to consider before deciding.

You are under no obligation to proceed after a consultation, and you are welcome to seek a second opinion.

What we will not promise

  • Results vary between individuals. We cannot predict yours and we will not guarantee one.
  • Not everyone is suitable. Some people who attend a consultation will be advised not to proceed.
  • All of these treatments carry risk, including the specific risks set out above for each one.
  • A course is usually recommended. Single-session results are the exception.
  • None of these is a weight-loss treatment or a treatment for an underlying medical condition unless specifically assessed as such.
  • Age matters. Additional legal requirements apply to patients under 18.
  • Cost is discussed at consultation, because it depends on the area, the technology and the number of sessions assessed as appropriate.
  • If you are unhappy, speak with us first so we can address it. You can also raise a concern with Ahpra or with the Office of the Health Ombudsman in Queensland at any time.

What we will not promise

Is excessive sweating a medical condition?

Yes. Excessive sweating of the underarms is known clinically as axillary hyperhidrosis. It has more than one possible cause, and assessment comes before treatment.

Does MiraDry hurt?

Local anaesthetic is used for the procedure. Afterwards, swelling, tenderness and numbness in the area are common for a period of days to weeks.

Is fat freezing a weight loss treatment?

No. Cryolipolysis is used for defined, localised areas of fat. It is not a weight-loss treatment and it is not appropriate if weight loss is your goal.

What are the risks of fat freezing?

Common effects include numbness, tingling, swelling, bruising and tenderness. Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, in which treated fat enlarges rather than reduces, is a recognised complication that generally requires surgical correction. Prolonged numbness or nerve pain is also recognised. Your practitioner will discuss these with you before you consent.

Does laser work on all leg veins?

No. Larger veins and veins associated with underlying venous disease are usually better managed by other means. Assessment determines which applies to you, and we will refer you where appropriate.

Does laser hair reduction work on grey or blonde hair?

Generally not well, and in some cases not at all, because light-based treatment relies on pigment in the hair. This is assessed at consultation.

Is laser hair reduction permanent?

It is hair reduction rather than permanent removal. A course of treatments is required and maintenance sessions may be needed.

How many sessions will I need?

All of these treatments are usually delivered as a course. The number depends on the concern, the area and your response, and we will give you an indication at consultation rather than a guarantee.

Are all body treatments available at every clinic?

No. Device availability varies by location. Contact the clinic you plan to attend, or check our locations.
